🏙️ Why Soi Buakhao Is One of Pattaya’s Most Practical Areas
Soi Buakhao has quietly become one of Pattaya’s most practical areas to stay. It’s not a famous sightseeing spot, but a neighborhood where daily life feels easy and comfortable.
After living in Pattaya for many years, I’ve watched Soi Buakhao gradually change from a simple local street into a convenient base for both visitors and long-stay travelers.
Soi Buakhao is known for its compact convenience—cafés, pharmacies, laundries, markets, massage shops, and food options are all close by, making everyday routines simple.
You can step out of your hotel and find many useful spots within a short walk—restaurants, songthaews, cafés, pharmacies, convenience stores, and even places open late at night.
Soi Buakhao combines walkable distances, frequent songthaews, plenty of dining choices, and everyday services in one compact neighborhood.
The overview map below will help you understand why everything feels so close once you’re staying in this area.

The red-highlighted section on the map shows the main stretch of Soi Buakhao.
Soi Buakhao stretches from Pattaya Klang (Central Pattaya Road) to Pattaya Tai (South Pattaya Road), with easy access to Second Road and Pattaya Beach.
Many first‑time visitors don’t realize how close these main roads are to each other. Once you understand the layout, moving around central Pattaya becomes much simpler, whether walking or using songthaews.
Soi Buakhao isn’t just a tourist area—it’s a lively neighborhood where locals, expats, and visitors share the same streets, creating a comfortable mix of convenience and everyday Pattaya life.
🌊 The Best of Both Worlds: Local Vibe with Easy Beach Access

Many first-time visitors wonder where they should stay in Pattaya. While every area has its own charm, Soi Buakhao is a practical choice for travelers seeking a balance between local daily life and easy access to Pattaya Beach.
Here are a few reasons why this area works so well for many visitors:
- Quick shortcuts to Second Road: Handy side streets (sois) allow you to cut through in just a couple of minutes.
- Easy access to Beach Road: Beach Road is within walking distance from many parts of Soi Buakhao.
- Everyday services nearby: Local markets, cozy cafés, affordable massages, pharmacies, and convenience stores are all within easy reach.
- Budget-friendly prices: Street food, local dining, and daily essentials are generally available at reasonable, non-premium prices.
This effortless combination of convenience and local charm makes Soi Buakhao a very comfortable spot to settle into.
⚖️ Pattaya Area Comparison: Who Should Choose Soi Buakhao?
Pattaya’s neighborhoods each offer a completely different vibe. Choosing the right base depends entirely on what you want out of your stay.
Based on local experience, here is a quick guide to help you decide if Soi Buakhao matches your travel style:
⭕ Soi Buakhao may be a great fit if you:
- Want high value for your budget: Accommodations, daily meals, and short-distance rides tend to be very reasonably priced.
- Value everyday convenience: Essential spots like local restaurants, laundries, pharmacies, massage shops, and convenience stores line the street, making daily life effortless.
- Enjoy a lively, social atmosphere: Bustling daytime markets, street food stalls, and nightlife hubs like LK Metro and Tree Town are all within the same neighborhood.
❌ You might prefer a different neighborhood if you:
- Are looking for a quiet, luxury beach resort experience.
- Prefer staying at a hotel directly facing the ocean front.
If you’re looking for beachfront luxury, North Pattaya (especially Wongamat) or Jomtien may suit you better. But for travelers who prioritize convenience, reasonable prices, and a lively local atmosphere, Soi Buakhao is definitely an area worth considering.
🌞 Day vs. Night: The Two Faces of Soi Buakhao

Soi Buakhao shows two completely different faces depending on the time of day.
During the day, it feels like a calm and practical local neighborhood.
At night, it transforms into one of Pattaya’s busiest entertainment districts.
This contrast between daytime calm and nighttime energy is what makes Soi Buakhao such a unique place to stay.
🌞 Daytime: Local Life & Everyday Convenience

Daytime Buakhao is relaxed, practical, and deeply local. It’s a neighborhood where you can run errands, grab a meal, or simply enjoy the everyday rhythm of Thai life.
🌞 Daytime: What You’ll See Around Soi Buakhao
- 🥭 Local markets selling fruit, cooked dishes, and daily essentials.
- 🍜 Street food stalls opening early for breakfast.
- 💆 Massage shops offering affordable treatments.
- 🧺 Plenty of small, family-run laundry shops—most offer next-day pickup, while some can provide same-day service if requested.
- 🌀 There are also a few newer self-service laundries with large washers and dryers.
- ☕ Long‑stay visitors working or relaxing in cafés.
- 🚶♂️ Residents moving through the area on foot or by motorbike.
One of my favorite daytime routines is grabbing a soft‑serve ice cream from MIXUE right on Soi Buakhao. Sitting in the air‑conditioned shop and taking a short break with a sweet treat is one of those small moments of happiness this area offers.
Daytime Buakhao isn’t built around sightseeing—it’s where everyday Pattaya life naturally unfolds, and that’s exactly what makes it so enjoyable to explore.
🌙 Nighttime: The Energy of LK Metro & Tree Town (And the Noise Reality)

At night, Soi Buakhao becomes a completely different world. The nightlife centers—LK Metro and Tree Town—create two distinct atmospheres:
Tree Town offers a relaxed open‑air atmosphere with food stalls, live music, and a casual social vibe. It’s a great place to enjoy a laid‑back night out.

LK Metro is more focused on bars, clubs, and nightlife energy, attracting visitors who prefer a more intense entertainment scene.

Together, they make the Soi Buakhao area one of Pattaya’s busiest entertainment zones.
🌙 Nighttime: What You’ll Find Around Soi Buakhao
- 🎶Bars and clubs turning up the music.
- 🚶Crowds moving between LK Metro and Tree Town.
- 🍢Street food vendors lining the streets.
- 🌍A lively mix of tourists, expats, and long‑stay visitors.
⚠️ Noise Reality
It’s energetic and fun—but from a local perspective, noise can be an issue depending on where you stay. Guests staying at hotels near Tree Town can often hear live music until 2–3 AM, especially on weekends.
📌 Hotel Location Matters
That’s why hotel location is just as important as the hotel itself.
Hotels located a little farther away from Tree Town or LK Metro are generally much quieter at night.

🟩The 4 Connection Routes I Recommend
Here’s what makes each route useful, along with a few tips based on my own experience walking around this area.
⭐ 1.🔵 Blue Line – New Second Road Connector

📍 Route Summary
Connects: Central Pattaya (Second Road) ↔ Witherspoons (Soi Buakhao)
Walking Time: Approx. 4–5 minutes (about 290m)
Atmosphere: Clean and newly developed, but quiet during daytime
This is a short, direct connection linking the busy plaza in front of Central Pattaya with the heart of Soi Buakhao.
The route consists of two distinct sections:
- The Buakhao Side (Traditional Alley)
Across from Witherspoons Buakhao, the route begins along a traditional side street that has existed for many years.

2. Second Road Side (Newly Redeveloped Area)
Near Central Pattaya, the route passes through a newly redeveloped area with cafés, bars, and open walkways.

It eventually exits right onto Second Road, straight across from Central Pattaya.
💡 Helpful Tips for Walkers
- Daytime vs. Nighttime: During the day, most bars in the new section are closed, making it feel almost completely empty. It might look like a private or dead-end alley at first glance, but it is a fully connected public route.
- Lighting at Night: The Central Pattaya side is bright and well-lit by modern shop signs, while the older Buakhao side gets noticeably darker, relying mainly on hotel frontage lighting.
🎯 Best For
- Anyone wanting a quick, straight shot between Central Pattaya shopping and Soi Buakhao nightlife without navigating heavy traffic.
2 🩵 Light Blue Line – Myth Night Connection

The Soi Buakhao side comes alive after dark.
💡 Helpful Tips for Walkers

🎯 Best For
- Travelers staying near Tree Town.
- Anyone looking for a direct route to Second Road.
- Nightlife visitors after dark.
3 🟩 Green Line – Tree Town Connection

📍 Route Summary
- Connects: Tree Town (Soi Buakhao side) ↔ Pattaya Soi 9 (Second Road side)
- Walking Time: Approx. 4–5 minutes (about 280 m)
- Atmosphere: Open and easy to walk through during the day; lively around Tree Town at night, while Pattaya Soi 9 remains relatively quiet
This route is especially useful if you want to move between Soi Buakhao, Tree Town, and Pattaya Night Bazaar without following the main roads.
Unlike nearby nightlife-centric alleys, the Pattaya Soi 9 section mainly features local massage shops, small restaurants, and budget hotels, giving this shortcut a more relaxed local street feel.
How the Route Works:
1. Tree Town Side (Soi Buakhao side)
The walkway on the Tree Town side opens directly onto Soi Buakhao.
During the day, this plaza-like area is spacious and easy to walk through; at night, it becomes lively with food stalls and bars.

2. Midway Section (Through Tree Town)
Walking westward through the center of Tree Town, you pass open seating areas and daytime cafés before reaching the western exit of the complex.

3. Pattaya Soi 9 Side (Second Road)
Continuing westward, the path leads directly into Pattaya Soi 9.
From here, walking straight for a few seconds brings you out onto Second Road, right next to the northern edge of Pattaya Night Bazaar.
Many visitors coming from Second Road do not realize this alley connects all the way through to Tree Town.

🌙 Daytime vs. Nighttime Experience
☀️ Daytime: A very practical and straightforward shortcut. Most businesses along Soi 9 are open, making the route easy to navigate for any traveler.
🌙 Nighttime: While the Tree Town area fills with evening activity, Pattaya Soi 9 itself remains relatively calm compared to major nightlife zones. Some sections may feel dimmer after business hours, but it remains a simple, straight path to walk.

💡 Helpful Tips for Walkers
- Landmarks: On Soi Buakhao, look for the Tree Town eastern walkway. On Second Road, look for Pattaya Soi 9 beside the northern edge of Pattaya Night Bazaar.

📍 Route Summary

How the Route Works:
1. Soi Buakhao Side
From Soi Buakhao, enter the side lane leading toward the rear entrance of the Pattaya Avenue complex.

2. Pattaya Avenue Back Entrance
As you reach the rear of Pattaya Avenue, the public road curves to the left. Instead of following the curve, continue straight into the open-air passage.

3. Midway Section (Open-Air Passage)
Walk straight along the open plaza past cafés, restaurants, and service counters lining the walkway.

4. Second Road Side
The walkway exits directly through the main front entrance of Pattaya Avenue onto Second Road.

🌙 Daytime vs. Nighttime Experience
☀️ Daytime: Bright, active, and easy to walk. Shops, cafés, and other businesses around the passage give the area a relaxed daytime atmosphere.

- Families and daytime walkers who prefer a quieter, open-air route away from the busier nightlife areas.
🛻 Getting Around: Why Buakhao Is So Easy to Get Around

One of the biggest advantages of staying in or visiting Soi Buakhao is how easily you can reach other parts of Pattaya. The songthaews running along Soi Buakhao give you a simple starting point, while a short walk to Second Road can open up even more routes.
To help you visualize your options, we’ve broken down the movement into two simple directions: NORTHBOUND (toward Terminal 21 / Naklua) and SOUTHBOUND (toward Walking Street & Jomtien).
Northbound Routes (Heading Toward Terminal 21 / Naklua)

If you’re heading north from Soi Buakhao toward Terminal 21 or Naklua, you have two main options depending on where you start:
N1 : Songthaew + Short Walk
Take the Buakhao Songthaew north to its final stop at Pattaya Klang (Central Pattaya Road). From there, it’s a short 3–5 minute walk to Second Road, where you can catch another northbound songthaew toward Terminal 21 and Naklua.
N2 : Connection Route
If you are close to one of the connection routes featured above, you can walk directly from Soi Buakhao to Second Road instead of taking the Buakhao Songthaew. From there, you can catch a northbound songthaew toward Terminal 21 or Naklua.
The best connection route depends on where you are on Soi Buakhao, so check the four connection routes described earlier to find the one closest to you.
Going to Naklua? Stay on the northbound Second Road songthaew as it passes Terminal 21 and continues north.
Southbound Routes: Beach Road, Walking St, Bali Hai Pier & Jomtien

South End: The usual end point for southbound Soi Buakhao songthaews. Most passengers get off here on South Pattaya Road, near Pattaya City School 8.
Riding south on Soi Buakhao brings you to the South End intersection (South Pattaya Road). From this hub, you can branch out to four main destinations:
- S1 (Beach Road): Get off at the South End and walk roughly 8–10 minutes west to reach the southern end of Beach Road.
- S2 (Walking Street): Walk about 5–8 minutes southwest from the South End drop-off straight to the entrance of Walking Street.
- S3 (Bali Hai Pier): Heading to Koh Larn? Walk south from the South End, past Walking Street, to reach Bali Hai Pier. It takes roughly 12–15 minutes on foot.
- S4 (Jomtien Beach Transfer): Walk to the dedicated Jomtien Songthaew transfer point near the South End, then transfer to a Jomtien-bound songthaew for the ride to Jomtien Beach.
How to Ride the Buakhao Songthaew Like a Local
Riding a songthaew along Soi Buakhao is cheap, easy, and surprisingly convenient once you know how it works. Unlike the one-way Beach Road and Second Road routes, Soi Buakhao has songthaews running in both directions, making it especially easy to use.

1. Soi Buakhao Runs Both Ways!
Songthaews run constantly along Soi Buakhao in both directions. Simply flag one down from the correct side of the street:
- Heading North: Stand on the east side (away from the beach) to go toward Pattaya Klang / Central Pattaya.
- Heading South: Stand on the west side (beach side) to go toward South Pattaya Road and Walking Street.
2. Step-by-Step: How to Ride & Pay
Getting on and off a Buakhao songthaew is simple. Here is what to do from the moment you flag one down to the moment you pay.

When you see an approaching songthaew, raise your hand gently with your palm facing down.
Once it stops, climb directly into the back passenger area. No need to speak to the driver unless you are asking if they are going to a specific landmark.
As you approach your destination, press one of the buzzer buttons located on the ceiling or handrails. The driver will pull over safely.
Walk up to the driver’s side window and hand over your fare. Always pay after you arrive at your destination.
Don’t negotiate the fare for a normal shared ride: If you simply want to travel along the regular Soi Buakhao route, there is no need to ask the driver for a price before boarding. Asking for a specific destination or a route outside the normal service can turn the ride into a private taxi, where the price is negotiated separately.
Keep small change handy: Have some small coins or a 20 THB note ready. This makes payment much easier, especially when the fare is 15 THB.
Mind your surroundings: Keep a firm grip on your belongings, especially when the truck is crowded. Avoid standing or hanging off the rear step while the songthaew is moving.
2026 Fare Update: What Changed?
Pattaya’s songthaew fares changed on April 10, 2026, ending the old 10 THB fare that had remained in place for decades. The new fare is generally 15–20 THB, depending on the distance.
For most short trips around central Pattaya, including Soi Buakhao, 15 THB is the standard fare. Longer journeys can cost 20 THB.
For a 15 THB fare, a 10 THB coin plus a 5 THB coin is the easiest option, but a 20 THB note is also fine and you can receive 5 THB in change.

Best For You If:
- You want maximum daily convenience without navigating quiet side streets.

🟦 Acqua Hotel Pattaya: A Smart Base Between Soi Buakhao and Second Road

“I want to stay somewhere central, but I don’t want to be tied to just one part of Pattaya.”
Acqua stands out because you can move easily toward two very different parts of central Pattaya.
Step toward Soi Buakhao, and you are close to Tree Town, LK Metro, local restaurants, and the area’s famous nightlife. Head toward Second Road, and the atmosphere changes—shopping, modern malls, restaurants, and another major songthaew route are all within easy reach.
That makes Acqua less about staying in one particular neighborhood and more about having two sides of Pattaya within easy walking distance.
Acqua is located on Soi Honey, a lively connecting street between Soi Buakhao and Second Road. However, the hotel’s position also gives you access to a quieter approach from the Second Road side, which feels quite different from the more nightlife-oriented parts of the area.
Exploring the Neighborhood

- Toward Soi Buakhao: Walk toward Soi Buakhao and you quickly reach the restaurants, massage shops, Tree Town, and nightlife around the area.
- Toward Second Road: Head in the opposite direction and you reach Second Road, with Central Pattaya’s shopping and dining options within easy walking distance.
- Two Songthaew Options: From Soi Buakhao, you can use the local songthaew route, while Second Road gives you another route toward places such as Terminal 21 and Naklua.
- A Different Feel Depending on the Way You Walk: The Soi Honey side becomes livelier at night, while the quieter access route from the Second Road side feels much more relaxed.
Day vs. Night Atmosphere
- Daytime: The area around Acqua is relatively relaxed. Walk toward Second Road and you quickly enter a more modern shopping and dining environment, while Soi Buakhao remains convenient for local restaurants, cafes, massage shops, and everyday errands.
- Nighttime: The atmosphere changes as you move toward Soi Honey and Soi Buakhao, where nightlife becomes much more noticeable. At the same time, the Second Road side remains a practical route for shopping, dining, and getting around.
In short, Acqua Hotel gives you something the other two hotels don’t: easy access to two very different sides of central Pattaya. You can head toward Buakhao for nightlife and local atmosphere, or toward Second Road for shopping, dining, and wider transport connections.
Best For You If:
- You want to experience both Soi Buakhao and Second Road without staying directly on either main street.
- You enjoy nightlife but also want easy access to shopping, dining, and everyday conveniences.

- Self-Service Laundromats: Modern laundromats with large washers and dryers are available directly on Soi Buakhao, as well as behind the Tuesday & Friday Market.
- Pharmacies & Convenience Stores: 24/7 convenience stores (Seven-Eleven) and well-stocked pharmacies are scattered throughout the street for quick access to snacks, toiletries, or medication.
In my experience, one local laundry shop on Soi Buakhao regularly had my clothes ready by the evening when I dropped them off early in the day.
💈 Haircuts: Affordable and Convenient on Soi Buakhao

Getting a haircut on Soi Buakhao is another small but useful advantage, especially for longer stays.
There are plenty of local barbershops around the area, and basic haircuts generally cost around 120–250 THB, depending on the shop.
- Easy Walk-Ins: No appointments needed—just walk in whenever you see an open chair.
- Convenient Evening Hours: Many shops stay open until around 8:00 PM, making it easy to pop in after a day out.
My Experience: I personally pay around 140 THB for a haircut and usually go about twice a month. If you prefer a more careful or detailed cut, spending around 250 THB can give you more options.
✅ Final Thoughts: Getting to Know Soi Buakhao
If you are visiting Pattaya for the first time, you may not have heard much about Soi Buakhao before planning your trip. Many visitors naturally focus on Beach Road, Walking Street, or the larger resort areas simply because they are more widely known.
But Soi Buakhao offers a different side of Pattaya. As you can see throughout this guide, it is a busy, practical neighborhood where hotels, restaurants, massage shops, laundry services, cafés, and everyday conveniences are all concentrated within a walkable area, with easy access to songthaews.
That does not mean Soi Buakhao is the right choice for everyone. Some travelers may prefer the beachfront atmosphere of Beach Road, the quieter resort feel of Wongamat, or another part of Pattaya depending on their travel style.
What makes Soi Buakhao worth knowing is its practical location and everyday convenience. Even if you choose to stay somewhere else, understanding how this area works can be useful when exploring central Pattaya, using songthaews, finding affordable local services, or deciding where to stay on a future visit.
