🚢 How to Get to Koh Larn from Pattaya (Ferry, Speedboat & Transport Guide)

🚢 Heading to Bali Hai Pier (Pattaya Side)
Bali Hai Pier is the main departure point for boats to Koh Larn, located at the southern end of Pattaya near Walking Street.
Here are the two best ways to get there:
1. Bolt or Grab (Recommended for Beginners) Using a ride-hailing app like Bolt or Grab is the most stress-free way.
You can get dropped off directly at the pier entrance, saving you from walking under the hot sun.
It’s affordable and very convenient if you’re traveling with a group or have bags.
2. Songthaew (Baht Bus) + Walking If you want to go local and save money, take a songthaew to the Walking Street entrance.
From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk through the street to reach the pier(Bali Hai Pier).
- Pros: Very cheap
- Cons: It can be confusing at first since there are no fixed stops or clear signs.
💡 Quick Tip: Whichever you choose, try to leave your hotel early. Reaching the pier with time to spare makes your start to the day much more relaxed!
There are two main ways to get to Koh Larn. Here’s a quick comparison to help you choose:
⛴ Choosing Your Boat (Ferry vs. Speedboat)
| 🚢Public Ferry | 🚤Speedboat | |
| Price | 30 THB (One-way) | 150+ THB (One-way) |
| Duration | Approx. 40 mins | Approx. 20 mins |
| Arrival Point | Main Piers only | Beaches or Piers |
| Experience | Stable and relaxing | Fast and bumpy |
| Best For | Budget travelers & families | Those in a hurry |
Main Piers :Na Baan Pier or Tawaen Beach Pier
Which one should you choose? If it’s your first time and you want a steady, scenic ride, the Public Ferry is the classic choice.
But if you want to skip the crowds and get straight to a specific beach, a Speedboat will save you time.
📍Getting Around Koh Larn
Once you step off the boat, you’ll see several ways to reach your favorite beach. Choose the one that fits your travel style!
These blue trucks are the most common way to get around. They run on set routes between the main piers and the popular beaches.
- Price: Around 20–40 THB per person.
- Best for: Families, groups, and those who want a simple, fixed-price ride.
If you are traveling solo and want to get to a specific spot quickly, hop on a motorbike taxi. You’ll find riders in colorful vests waiting near every pier.
- Price: 40–100 THB (depending on the distance).
- Best for: Solo travelers and those who want to reach their destination without waiting.
For those comfortable with riding, renting a scooter gives you the freedom to explore multiple beaches and hidden viewpoints at your own pace.
- Price: Around 200–300 THB per day (usually includes a full tank of gas).
- Best for: Adventurous travelers who want to see every corner of the island.

🧍♀️ Local Friend:
Be careful with the steep hills if you rent a bike!
🎟 Return Trip & Important Tips

Planning your return is just as important as getting there.
Here is the simple rule to make sure you get back to Pattaya smoothly.
⛴ If you are taking the Public Ferry:
Check which pier your ferry departs from.
There are two main piers on Koh Larn, and they have different schedules.
Na Baan Pier: The main village side.
Tawaen Beach Pier: The most popular beach side.
Rule: Make sure to arrive at the pier at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.
🚤 If you are taking a Speedboat:
The return is more flexible but requires confirmation.
Rule: Always confirm the exact pick-up point and time with the boat staff when you arrive. Sometimes they pick you up directly from the beach sand, and other times from a nearby pier.
🌴 Best Beaches & My Ideal Day Trip
Koh Larn is my go-to escape from the mainland.
Every beach has its own personality, so I’ve picked out my top three favorites along with some great local food and photo spots.
I’ve also shared a simple plan for how I like to spend a day on the island.
It’s just one idea, but I hope it helps you plan your own perfect getaway!
Cash is King: Neither the ferry nor most local transport on the island accepts credit cards. Keep enough 20 and 100 THB notes handy.
Last Boat Alert: The last public ferry usually leaves around 6:00 PM (check the latest timetable at the pier!).
If you miss it, you’ll have to pay for an expensive private speedboat.
Boats can fill up quickly in the afternoon, especially on weekends, so don’t wait until the last minute.
Don’t Lose Your Ticket: If you bought a round-trip ticket for a speedboat, keep that paper safe! You’ll need it to board the boat back.
Now that you know how to get there, let’s explore the best beaches and things to do on Koh Larn .
🏝️ 3 Recommended Beaches on Koh Larn
Koh Larn has several beautiful beaches, but each one has a very different atmosphere.
Here are three recommended beaches that are easy to enjoy, even on a short visit.
\ Choose your beach /
🌊 Tawaen Beach— The Lively Hub
Tawaen Beach is the most popular and easiest beach to access on Koh Larn.
It is usually the first stop for many visitors arriving by ferry, so it has the most facilities and activities.
Vibe: Busy, energetic, and convenient
Best for: First-time visitors, groups, water activities
You’ll find plenty of restaurants, beach chairs, and shops here.
Water sports like jet skiing and banana boats are also widely available.

It is a great place to slow down and enjoy the natural side of Koh Larn.
Vibe: Quiet, laid-back, less crowded
Best for: Couples, solo travelers, relaxing
The beach is clean, and the water is clear.
There are fewer shops, but enough to enjoy a comfortable stay.
If you prefer a quieter environment away from large crowds, this is a great option.

🧍♀️ Local Friend:
Recently, small cafés and restaurants have started appearing at the back of the beach.
The area feels fresh and welcoming, but not overly developed.

🌅Samae Beach– Balanced & Scenic
Samae Beach is a well-balanced option between convenience and relaxation.
It is clean, organized, and slightly less crowded than Tawaen, while still offering good facilities.
Vibe: Comfortable, scenic, well-maintained
Best for: Travelers who want both comfort and atmosphere
There are restaurants, rest areas, and a viewpoint on a small hill at one end of the beach.
It’s a great spot for photos, especially in the late afternoon.
You’ll also find Xanadu Beach Resort((a 3-star hotel)) right on the sand, which is perfect if you want to stay late.

🧍♀️ Local Friend:
The hill view is amazing! The stairs are a bit steep, so just watch your step if you’re in flip-flops.
Also, if you stay at Xanadu, you can enjoy the sunset without rushing for the last ferry.
It’s a total game-changer!

📝 From My Own Visits
I’ve visited Koh Larn several times as a day trip from Pattaya.
This itinerary is based on what actually worked best for a smooth and enjoyable visit.

Catch the morning ferry from Bali Hai Pier.
The ride takes about 40 minutes, and you’ll land directly at Tawaen Beach Pier.
Once you arrive, simply walk into the beach area — it’s lively, colorful, and full of island vibes.

Tawaen is the busiest beach on Koh Larn.
Grab a drink, enjoy the bright white sand, and check the activity booths if you want water sports later.
Spend about 1 hour strolling and settling into island mode.

From Tawaen, hop on a songthaew heading toward Tien Beach.
Ride time: around 10–15 minutes.
Tien Beach is calmer and more relaxed than Tawaen — perfect for lunch.
What to do:
- Eat at a beachfront Thai restaurant
- Enjoy the quieter vibe
- Take photos under the palm-lined walkways
After lunch, continue on foot to Samae Beach.

The walk from Tien → Samae is easy and scenic (approx. 15 minutes).
You’ll arrive at Samae Beach, one of the widest and cleanest beaches on the island.
Enjoy:
- Beach chairs
- The viewpoint stairs for panoramic photos
- A drink at one of the beach cafés
※ Samae has fewer shops, so bring drinks just in case.

When you’re done relaxing, head back to the main road where songthaews are usually waiting.
They will take you back to Na Baan Pier, the main pier for return ferries.

Board the 5:00 PM ferry from Na Baan Pier.
- Ferry time: about 40 minutes
- After walking out of Bali Hai Pier, you’ll be on Pattaya Beach Road by around 6:00 PM
Perfect timing to enjoy dinner, a sunset walk, or explore the night spots.
🌞 Quick Summary: How to Enjoy Koh Larn in One Day
If you’re visiting Koh Larn for the first time, keeping things simple is the best way to enjoy your trip.
Start your day early, take a ferry from Pattaya, and choose one or two beaches that match your travel style.
